About me
I trained in fashion and textile design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, then spent a decade working as a fashion designer — first in Los Angeles, then New York City, where I built my career designing sweaters and knitwear for boutique cashmere brands. That decade gave me a deep, hands-on understanding of garment construction, from concept through production.
After moving to Denver, I shifted from designing for other labels to building my own studio — first making quilts, wall hangings, and clothing on my own terms, then eventually focusing on what I love most: writing patterns and teaching others to sew. Today, Mimi Shim Studio is where that decade of professional design experience meets a commitment to quality craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and slow, sustainable making.
