How to achieve a clean neckline finish. This is my favorite way to finish a neckline for a clean edge finish, and this technique can easily be applied to armholes for tank tops or anywhere you have a curved edge.

FAQs

  • If you are ready to incorporate sewing into your life, I highly recommend gathering some of the basic essential sewing supplies on my list to get started. You will have more success if you set up a sewing space or store them together for easier access. I’ll have a sewing 101 part 1 video soon covering the most essential supplies to get started. • I don’t. However, I’m thinking of ways to offer more personalized sewing lessons online. If you have any ideas, send me an email at hello@mimishim.com !

  • If you are a beginner sew-ist, I recommend that you get the highest quality, simplest, non-computerized sewing machine within your budget. This also depends on what you plan on sewing. If it’s mostly clothing or smaller things, then most basic machines will be fine.

However, if you plan on making large quilts, you will probably want a machine with a longer “throat” so you can have more space on the right side of the sewing machine for large scale sewing projects.

  • I do love my industrial overlocker, however - I have found that home sergers do not compare to an industrial one. I have found home sergers to break easily and the correct tension hard to maintain. Home sergers are also a lot more expensive than an industrial one - go figure! So, if you are mainly sewing personal projects then I wouldn’t recommend getting a serger. There are lots of edge finish stitching on a home sewing machine that you can use instead.

  • Simple sewing projects like a pillow case, cloth napkins, and aprons would be good for a beginner. Start small and don’t spend too much on the fabric. I’ll be sharing some of these kinds of project soon so stay tuned to my Youtube channel!
